Orientation for New International Students of 2019 was Held in PAS

On 30th November, the orientation for new international students of PAS was held in PAS. WEI Jiuchang, Deputy Dean of PAS, SONG Xiaoyan, Director of the PAS Graduates Office, FU Chen, teacher from Students’ Affairs Office, PAS teachers, students and all the new international students attended the orientation, which was hosted by LIU Yinghua, Director of the PAS International Affairs Office.


Firstly, Deputy Dean WEI Jiuchang sent his greeting to all the new international students. Then he highlighted the experience of two previous students from USTC. His speech made students to think about their goals and missions. He further stirred the thought to think the ways to achieve these goals and how to plan the career. Three years of study in China can be fleeting, he hoped students can set specific goals, cherish study time, treasure opportunities.



ZHAO Shuliang, spoke as the teacher representative. He encouraged students to integrate into PAS family. He encouraged students to understand Chinese culture, master professional knowledge, accumulate experience, improve scientific research ability and strive to make dreams come true. ZHANG Xuming welcomed the international students on behalf of all Chinese students. He wished they will value time and chances, meet challenges with mutual appreciation and tolerance. Thus, to gain happiness, knowledge and friendship at USTC.


Sumran Ali, an international student of 2017, welcomed the new students and shared his stories in PAS. He expressed that the university is a warm home more than a place of knowledge and a spiritual harbor for international students.


Director LIU Yinghua gave an overview of PAS. It includes the education system, progress of international cooperation and international students status, student activities, and school regulations. She insisted students to follow the laws and regulations. Director SONG Xiaoyan introduced the criteria for graduation and the class system in PAS. She wanted students to allocate time wisely and keep an eye on academic progresses.


All new international students listened to statements carefully and they were thankful for the opportunity that PAS provide for them. At present, PAS have more than 60 students from 23 countries along the Belt and Road countries such as Pakistan, Ghana, Iran, Indonesia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who are playing an active role in academic research, international exchanges, cultural and sports activities, especially in expanding the international influence of USTC.
